Tire-maker Michelin North America is stepping up to remove the stigma often associated with depression and get more employees to seek help, Michelin’s human resources officer David Stafford said at a symposium earlier this month.
Nearly 20% of Michelin’s 22,000 employees have used the company’s metal health services, compared with a 10.4% average for all employers, says Jim West, manager of Michelin’s behavioral health program. This has resulted in a 30% reduction in outpatient claims spending and a 182% return on investment.
