Considering the importance of documenting the behavior, performance and discipline of employees, as it could be evidence in litigation or claims, it is prudent to adhere to best practices when generating such documentation. So reports the National Law Review.

Before creating a document, companies should consider if it will be used internally or will be reviewed by state and federal agencies; what events must be documented; if the document must be created “contemporaneously” to an event and when it can be destroyed; where documentation should be stored; and what style and form should be used when generating a document.
