Trucking Industry Faces Recruitment/Retention Challenges

The truck driving industry plans to increase pay and offer more bonuses to deal with a recruitment and retention challenge. So reports American Trucker.

Nearly 70% of 1,000 transportation managers say finding qualified drivers is their number one challenge, while 54% note retention is a big concern, according to an annual survey from HireRight, a human resources company.

To address this

  • 54% of managers plan to increase their follow-up communications
  • 53% look to host driver appreciation events
  • 42% say they will increase pay
  • 40% say they will up their performance-based bonuses

Forty-percent of managers also plan to bolster retention, and training and develop programs this year.
