Resurgent Mining Industry, Banking Scandal, to Fuel Wage Growth for Some Aussies

A resurgent mining industry and a nationwide probe into banking and financial company scandals are likely to fuel a boost in salaries for certain jobs. So reports news.com.au.

The mining industry is in need of skilled workers in Western Australia and Queensland for a range of professions, including engineering, project delivery, commercial management, project controls, and quality and safety, according to the Robert Walters Salary Survey for 2019.

That survey also notes that a government royal commission probe of the banking industry for unethical practices will boost demand for risk, remediation and compliance experts, especially in Sydney and Melbourne.

"Over the past few years we have seen only very specialist jobs experience double digit wage growth, such as high-end technology software developers, cyber security specialists and infrastructure professionals," says Robert Walters' managing director James Nicholson. "This year not only are specialized technology and infrastructure jobs expected to see continued growth, but those employed in mining, risk and compliance, and human resources should also feel positive about wage growth."
