IBM’s HR Head Talks About Harnessing Tech

IBM's chief human resources officer, Diane Gherson, says data, analytics and artificial intelligence are creating huge shifts in the workplace and that HR needs to stay on top of these changes. So reports Forbes.

Job applicants are already digitally savvy before applying for a position and have an expectation of being able to find out answers quickly, Gherson says.

"Our job in HR is to create that connected, transparent, mobile, personalized, searchable and 24x7 universe through our workplace and our tools," Gherson notes. "It means investing in new technology and reinventing all our processes through the lens of the employee."

Artificial intelligence also plays a big part in helping make HR better equipped to find the right talent. AI and deep learning "improves our decision support capability and workforce management--whether it is to select candidates who will be more successful, match an employee to job openings or infer an employee's skills from her digital footprint," Gherson says.
