Rise in Job Discrimination Against Pregnant, Disabled and LGBT in Indonesia: Report

Indonesia’s civil services sector is witnessing a rise in discrimination against pregnant, disabled and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender job candidates, according to a report by the country’s ombudsman. So reports HRM Asia.

The report by Ombudsman Indonesia commissioner Ninik Rahayu cited the defense and trade ministries among government departments that were being discriminatory in its job advertisements. The country will soon accept applications from millions of job seekers looking to fill about 200,000 civil service positions.

“Banning people from applying for a job simply because they are transgender is not acceptable and is a violation of human rights,” she said.

While Rahayu has urged the government ministries to stop their discriminatory practices, these agencies have not been responsive.
