Texas University Allows Workers to Trade-In Sick Days

Abilene Christian University is offering its workers an opportunity to participate in community service by using their sick days. So reports The Optimist.

The so-called Sick-to-Service program from the Abilene, Texas, private university allows employees and faculty who have 240 hours of sick leave to use up to 24 hours a year. Employees who served on university-sponsored mission trips are able to get an extra eight hours. 

“I thought this could be a way for ACU employees to get out and serve more,” said Brandi Jo Delony, office manager and financial analyst in business services. “A lot of them like to do that but we end up having to use vacation [hours] to do that and sometimes you don’t have the hours available or you already have a family vacation scheduled.”
