Netherlands Aims to Make Work from Home a Right

The Netherlands is on track to pass a law that would mandate employers consider their workers’ requests to work from home as long as their professions permit it. So reports Women’s Agenda.

conference 4087444 640smallIf the work-from-home legislation passes, the Netherlands would be one of the first nations to establish remote work flexibility as a legal right. For employers, it means they will have to take their employees’ requests seriously and provide them a valid reason should they reject the request.

Two years prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, 14% of workers in the Netherlands worked from home, according to Eurostat.

Demands from some high profile U.S. employers for workers to return to the office has become a heated issue. Elon Musk grabbed headlines when he recently gave his employees an ultimatum to return to the office for a minimum of 40 hours per week or lose their jobs. But Musk is not alone among employers who are anxious for their employees to return to the office.
