And now, evidently, some of the leading social-media giants have earned yet another distinction: they lack diversity, and in a big way. According to a voluntary diversity report issued by Facebook, more than three-quarters of its management team is comprised of men, not to mention a staggering 85% of its tech employees.
What’s more, well over half the firm’s workforce is white and a third Asian; blacks and Hispanics together add up to 6%. Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg and Yahoo CEO Marisa Mayer notwithstanding, Facebook’s compatriots Yahoo, Google, LinkedIn and numerous others reported analogous figures.
Some of their competitors, including Apple, Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard, couldn’t make similar dubious claims. The reason: they refused to disclose their diversity statistics.
