Employers may be shortchanging themselves by forgoing hiring older workers and the experience they bring in favor of younger ones who they assume may be more productive, which is often not the case.
Lawmakers hoping to get reelected also may have a rough time if they ignore their older constituents as they “happen to be the most disciplined voters,” Bloomberg reports.
“Not acting as forcefully on age discrimination as on other kinds of bias carries an unpredictable political cost for politicians too youth- and future-oriented to take heed of the reality of their aging countries,” Bloomberg notes.
