California Bill Targets Pay Equity

California legislators passed a bill that would mandate employers to list salary ranges with jobs they post in the state. So reports The Register.

California Flag 2SB 1162 “would require an employer with 15 or more employees to include the pay scale for a position in any job posting.” The bill becomes law if California Governor Gavin Newsom signs it before Sept. 30.

“If this passes, I think we will see more job postings that show the salary range,” says Wendy Musell, managing partner of law offices of Wendy Musell and counsel for employment-law specialists Levy Vinick Burrell Hyams. “It will also allow employees in current positions to request the salary range for their position.”

The California Chamber of Commerce slammed the bill as “unworkable.”
