‘Attributes Gap’ Signals Disconnect Between Jobseekers And Employers

What jobseekers value most in employers and what they feel employers deliver best are not the same, pointing to an “attributes gap,” according to a recent Randstad US survey.

Salary and benefits, long-term job security and a jovial workplace are the top three attributes jobseekers want from their employers. But, these attributes place fifth, sixth and eighth, respectively, as to how jobseekers feel employers are delivering them.

Jobseekers rate financial health, strong management and solid training as the top three, respectively, on what they feel employers are best at delivering. But these attributes rated fifth, ninth and seventh, respectively, as to what jobseeker value.

Randstad US, a staffing and human resources services firm, said the findings were part of its employer branding survey with 200,000 participants in 25 countries. “What this should signify to employers is a growing disconnect that can be detrimental from an employee engagement, retention and, ultimately, cost perspective,” said Randstad North America Chief Human Resources Officer Jim Link. “While organizations may not be able to influence every workplace desire, managing workers’ wants and needs should not only be done from a macro-level by the organization, but also much more frequently from a micro-level by managers to ensure alignment.”
