Myths That Doom Recruitment Programs

Some HR practices that have become the norm for recruiting candidates could actually be chasing them away. So reports Rosemary Haefner, HR chief for CareerBuilder, for CIO.

One so-called myth that hurts recruitment programs is the incorrect belief that screener questions only weed out unqualified candidates. Screener questions that make “candidates jump through extra hoops--especially those with in-demand skills--can result in significant drop-off rates,” Haefner writes.

Another myth is that mobile recruitment is overrated. This causes a firm to miss out on millennials who live on the devices.

Additionally, many firms incorrectly believe their HR managers have a good handle on the effectiveness of their recruitment sources. Almost 75% of “all HR managers don’t calculate ROI from their specific vendors, often due to a lack of time or money or the inability to make sense of data from disparate systems,” Haefner writes. “Of those who track their return, 69% look at the cost per candidate while a little more than half (54%) calculate the quality of the applicants.”
