Hershey Promises to Improve Workplace Equality

The Hershey Company pledged to back three White House initiatives that aim to boost workplace equality, a press release notes.

The first initiative is a pledge for companies to address gaps in pay between men and women. The second, First Job Compact Pledge, is aimed at helping young people not attending school or not holding down a secure job to get a chance to prove themselves.

“Hershey provides jobs and internships suitable for first-time job seekers in manufacturing, sales, retail, human resources and corporate administration functions in and around Hershey, Pa., as well and other communities,” the firm notes in the release.

It also develops pathways for new employees to move up in the organization using a variety of resources, including job-specific professional and technical training courses, tuition reimbursement and leadership programs.”

The third initiative focuses on people who have served time and been released, but still struggle to find work because of their criminal record or history.

“The Fair Chance Pledge calls on organizations to invest in their communities, eliminate unnecessary hiring barriers and provide meaningful opportunities for individuals with criminal records,” the release notes. “Through the Fair Chance Pledge, The Hershey Company affirms its commitment to giving these individuals a second chance at finding a good job.”
