It's Not All Doom and Gloom for Minority Tech Job Divide

A report from Progressive Policy Institute indicates there may be less of a racial divide in the tech workforce than some have speculated. So reports The Wall Street Journal.

While some technology giants like Google and Facebook have recently reported relatively few African Americans, Hispanics and female employees, a Progressive Policy Institute study shows that across the board there has been an uptick in African American and Hispanic hires. However, women continue to make up a disproportionately small piece of the workforce.

In 2014, black and Hispanic workers made up 12% of the tech workforce, up 3 percentage points from 2009. The number of black college graduates heading into the tech field jumped up 58%. However, of the 730,000 high-skill tech jobs created from 2009 to 2014, only about a quarter went to women, even though they comprise 47% of the workforce.
