To Roth or Not to Roth? That is the Annual 401(k) Question

With more employers offering Roth 401(k) retirement plans in addition to traditional, pre-tax 401(k)s, an increasing number of employees have a choice but to switch their traditional plan to a Roth. So reports The Wall Street Journal.

 

The question seems to garner a lot of discussion around tax time in April. The basic question around switching to a Roth 401(k) is, do you want to take the tax deduction now or when you withdraw the funds during your retirement? Seems simple enough, but the answer – as evidenced by a group of tax experts polled recently by The Wall Street Journal, may be more complicated than that.
