HR Bigwigs Prefer to Promote from Within: Study

It's not great news for job-hunters, but encouraging for employees seeking a promotion at work. Nearly three-quarters of the 400 respondents indicated they prefer developing current employees' skills to help them move into more senior roles, rather than hiring from the outside, according to a just-released survey of business leaders responsible for HR conducted by the non-profit College for America (CFA). So reports SHRM.

 

That jives with concurrent research findings by a Wharton School of Business professor that external hires tend to cost more and perform less. Among its other revealing findings, the CFA study cites a need to develop talent and leadership as the number-one challenge for businesses today.
