Gay Latino Ex-Goldman Exec Says Wall Street Is Far Behind On Diversity

A top former Goldman Sachs executive once seen as a potential CEO at the firm said that Wall Street has gained a greater appreciation of diversity during his 19 years working at the investment banking giant, but is still lagging badly. So reports Reuters.

Goldman SachsWall Street firms “began to understand that diversity of your workforce was like diversification of your portfolio,” Marty Chavez, who held the chief information officer and chief financial officer positions at Goldman, said of his time on Wall Street. But Chavez, who is gay and Latino, said the financial sector is way behind in embracing diversity and pointed out that all his mentors were “straight white Jewish males.”

“If I had been waiting for a Latino mentor, or an LGBT mentor, or God forbid, one who is both Latino and LGBT, I’d still be out there waiting,” Chavez said.
