The investigation into GitHub’s HR head’s firing of the employee found “significant errors of judgment and procedure.” That Jewish employee told Tech Crunch that on the day of the Capitol riot he warned his colleagues in Washington, D.C. to “stay safe homies, Nazis are about” in a comment in Slack. After another employee took offense to the Slack comment, the Jewish employee said he was fired two days later with a human relations representative noting a “pattern of behavior that is not conducive to company policy” as the reason for the dismissal.

After employees expressed concerns over the firing of their Jewish colleague, Chief Operating Officer Erica Brescia noted in a blog post that “our head of HR has taken personal accountability and resigned from GitHub yesterday morning, Saturday, January 16th,” CNBC reports. The name of the HR head was not disclosed.

GitHub “immediately reversed” the decision to fire its Jewish employee and then noted that they were “in communication with his representative.”

“To the employee we wish to say publicly: we sincerely apologize,” Brescia said.
