Unilever CHRO: Pandemic Led To Major Mind Shift In Global Workforce

Traditional models of “employment forever” are no longer viable in a post-COVID-19 world, according to the chief human resources officer for Unilever. So reports Happi.

unileverThe so-called 40/40/40 work model, which entails a 40-hour work week, for 40 years with one employer and retiring at 40% of the annual salary is not the reality many companies face now, Leena Nair shared with McKinsey in a recent interview.

“Why have just one standard employment model that everyone must fit into rather than having multiple employment options that fit into people’s lives?” Nair asked.

Early on during the pandemic, Unilever and other global conglomerates proved that they could quickly readjust long-time workplace models, Nair said. They were, for example, able to work remotely without hierarchical boundaries.

“One of my big learnings through this period has been we’re all in the same storm, but we’re not in the same boat,” Nair said. “Creating personalized solutions for people everywhere has been a huge challenge. We operate in 190 countries. Each country has met different challenges at different times and has often responded differently.”
