The country’s parliament approved new rules this month to accommodate the large number of people who now work from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Employers can be slapped with penalties for contacting employees after work hours and also will have too foot the cost of working remotely, including for electricity and Internet, under the rules.
“We consider Portugal one of the best places in the world for these digital nomads and remote workers to choose to live in, we want to attract them to Portugal,” the country's Minister of Labour and Social Security Ana Mendes Godinho said at a recent conference in Lisbon.
