Nike Says Bye to Third Diversity Head in Two Years

It took just six months for Jarvis Sam to leave as Nike’s chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer, making him the third person in this role to resign in two years. So reports Retail Dive.

nike 311452 1280Felicia Mayo, who served as Nike’s chief talent, diversity and culture officer, left the global apparel giant this past summer after serving two years. Mayo had taken over for Kellie Leonard in 2020.

Nike acknowledged in 2018 that it had to “accelerate representation” of women and people of color to leadership roles. This occurred about the same time as the company saw the departure of many of its executives due to bad behavior and a poisonous workplace.

Also in 2018, a class action lawsuit was filed against Nike alleging numerous sexual harassment incidents as well as gender discrimination. The suit alleged that women were paid less than men and were given fewer promotional opportunities.
