Working Weekends Becomes More Common Post Pandemic  

While remote work remains a prominent feature of the labor market three years after the COVID-19 pandemic, workers are also clocking in more hours on weekends. So reports Yahoo Finance.

work from home man 1866784 640A survey by workplace software company ActivTrak finds that, on average, workers racked up more hours on Saturday and Sunday in 2022 compared with 2021. Overall, just 5% of those surveyed had labored on weekends last year, averaging 6.6 hours, which was up by 18 minutes from 2021.

But workers in some industries, including technology, saw their weekend hours shoot up 31% year-over-year to an average of 11.5 hours. Media industry employees increased the amount of time they worked on weekends 53% during that span, and averaged 10.7 hours.

“Over the last 3 years, flexibility has become significantly more acceptable and for some, this means opting for a shorter week-day and shifting part of the workload to the weekend,” said Gabriela Mauch, vice president of the productivity lab at ActivTrak.
