Professional basketball player Jason Collins and professional football hopeful Michael Sam have shown great courage by coming out of the closet in one of the last bastions of macho culture, male contact sports. So reports Fox Sports.
But beyond these athletes' struggle for acceptance by their teammates, their fans, the wide, wide world of sports – and perhaps even themselves – are issues that command the attention of HR professionals as well.

For at the end of the day, the NBA, NFL, MLB and all sports leagues and the teams they comprise are also employers. The playing field is the players' workplace. One former NFL co-workers puts his former "office" under a microscope in discussing the impact of gay teammates.
