Making Sure Top Exec Hires Are a Good Fit

When a top executive in a high-profile company leaves abruptly or after a short tenure (think Enrique de Castro, Yahoo's former chief operating officer), the reasons for the individual's departure are generally left vague – as the employee's severance agreement often mandates. So reports the Wall Street Journal.
Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer would only say, "Ultimately, Enrique was not a fit."
We will likely never know the whole story behind de Castro's dismissal, but Ms. Mayer may have revealed more than she intended to in her statement.
In a business climate where people at the top rungs are still in demand – and evidently many are willing to make a move now that the economy is slowly improving – hiring managers and candidates alike are taking a closer look at an often-overlooked job requirement: that elusive concept of "cultural fit."
