Georgia Man Lied About Having COVID-19, Cost Employer $100,000+

A Georgia worker pled guilty last month to wire fraud as part of a scheme where he lied to his employer about having COVID-19, leading his company to shut down its plant. The closure resulted in more than $100,000 in losses. So reports Associated Press.

covid 19 5239417 640Santwon Antonio Davis had sent his employer a phony medical excuse letter in May, according to the U.S. attorney’s office in Atlanta. That letter noted that the 35-year-old tested positive for COVID-19, which led to the closure of the plant and other workers being put on paid leave so they could quarantine while the company sanitized the facility.

Davis “caused unnecessary economic loss to his employer and distress to his coworkers and their families,” said U.S. Attorney Byung J. “BJay” Pak.
