Employers are doing the right thing by focusing on talent acquisition, but there is more they can do, says Nickle LaMoreaux, chief human resources officer at IBM.
“I worry when we talk about the Great Resignation that it kind of assumes the answer already: People are going to resign. I think that’s a little premature,” LaMoreaux says. “Talent acquisition is absolutely important in a dynamic and hot labor market—there’s no question—but I don’t want HR teams to take the easy way out.”
Instead of the Great Resignation, what HR leaders are confronting is a “Great Reevaluation” that speaks to their employees wanting to claim ownership of their careers and how to align their personal goals with their professional roles, she says.
“This is an opportunity for HR departments to be working with business leaders and managers to re-recruit existing employees,” LaMoreaux says.
