Gabriel Fortin also shot a male HR professional who survived. His three fatal victims were women. The 22-year-sentence from a court in Valance, a city in southeast France, was the maximum allowed for murder and attempted murder. Fortin, who was arrested in 2021, days after he shot his victims, came to be known as the “HR killer.”
Two of the shooting victims, including the only survivor, were involved in his job dismissals, which occurred in 2006. Another victim had led dismissal actions against Fortin three years later. The last victim did not have contact with Fortin prior to the fatal shooting, but he targeted the Valence job center where she worked at and where he was registered.
Fortin did not speak much during his trail, but in addition to his conspiracy claims, he also said that he was being spied on. Fortin’s attorneys argued that he was not mentally fit for trail, but prosecutors countered that he had carefully researched and planned the shootings.
