Workplace Ethics: The Good and Bad News

It seems the media is saturated almost daily with stories about companies coping with unethical behavior or, at the very least, lapses in judgment. So reports SHRM.
Whether it's JPMorgan Chase ponying up eye-popping sums in the billions for their role in the financial meltdown, or not providing their clients sufficient warning about the Madoff Ponzi scheme; or the CEO of General Motors testifying to Congress that she knew nothing about the design flaw that caused numerous deaths, culminating in a massive nationwide recall of Chevy Cobalts and other makes.
These are high-profile instances, to be sure, but they're emblematic of a slippery slope toward unethical business cultures in industries across the board. However, corporations large and small are starting to take note of the damage that lapsed ethics can do to company morale, performance, employee retention – even a firm's bottom line – and are working to turn the situation around. And HR professionals, in many cases, are at the forefront of this trend.
