Tesla Spied On Its Workers’ Facebook Platforms Amid 2017 Union Drive

Elon Musk's Tesla tapped a public relations firm in 2017 and 2018 to monitor its employees on Facebook during a time when some workers looked to launch a union at its Fremont, California factory. So reports CNBC, citing invoices and documents it reviewed.

elon musk g2976ec871 640The electrical vehicle giant paid MWW PR to oversee its employees on the platform as well as their other engagements on social media. That PR firm closely monitored social media chats by employees around alleged unfair labor practices at the company and a sexual harassment lawsuit.

“MWW consulted with Tesla in 2017-2018 on a broad employee communications engagement during a period of rapid growth at the Company,” a spokesperson for that company told CNBC. “It is a common practice to review media coverage and public social conversation about a company to gain insights into issues and perceptions of stakeholders about the brand.”

Tesla did not reply to CNBC’s comment request.
